bouquet
bouquet
the title of this ep came from a bar, “kinrose you don’t gotta give me flowers, i’ll be bouquet”. i made this at a point where everything felt DIY, even the validation. i had a very small team really just comprised of the friends i love to make this project happen. the sentiment of that bar was felt throughout the whole process— i was able to turn my ear away from external voices and solely care about making music me and my friends +family enjoy. i don’t think that ability always flows naturally so im forever grateful for that time we had making this project together.

i felt myself change through the making of this ep into someone more intentional. the studios a 40 min drive from my place. i started using that time to study music right before going into recording. i listened mostly to singers like ravyn lenae’s hypnos project brandy, amerie. really started paying attention to how they curated their background vocals and thinking about the layers that added to the feeling. bouquet was probably my first song where i thought intently on what purpose i wanted the background vocals to serve. i feel nostalgic toward that recording session cuz the song kept revealing itself to me in a new light everytime we tweaked something, and the feeling of everything being in alignment when we were done was visceral

i’m always drawn to making at least one big up track on my projects, that’s what outliers was. it’s one of my favorite songs to perform cuz it’s just positivity all around

this was the last song i wrote for the project, i had been debating back and forth on what songs to include on the ep and this one came in last minute. for me this one’s just about making that commitment known, that i’m choosing music as my north star & my belief in myself is gonna light the way

i thank the ground for ifting you up
i thank the wind for bringing you round
i thank the clouds for holding you down
i thank the sun for kissing your skin when i ain’t around -
shot the video for this song at freedom park, the sunshine was making atlanta look idyllic. edited the video on my 10-year old mac laptop which buffered glitched and froze the entire time

i didn’t mean to make this song a linear story but it really dives into me becoming more of myself as i experience falling in love, moving out my childhood home and then moving all the way from pg to atl with the person i love. shot the video for this on 3 old cameras (everything diy, remember) running around somebody beautiful home. this is my moms favorite song of mine and it’s up there for me too
